The brief

A design consultancy wanting an open floor for the culture and quiet for the actual work — the usual contradiction.

The hard part

A live floor. The team kept working through the build, so everything happened across four weekend phases.

What we did about it

  1. Acoustic ceiling before anything decorative

The budget went up into the ceiling rather than out onto the walls. Nobody photographs it and everybody notices it.

  2. Four small call rooms, not two big ones

Meetings here are two people and a laptop. Sizing for that freed the floor.

  3. Planting as the only partition

It divides sightlines without dividing air, and it survived a fit-out with no budget left for screens.
